2025 Badger Football Thread

on tv, it looked like the stadium was about 15 to 20% empty. the end zone seats were especially empty. do you get a sense that the fanbase has lost interest?
The students came in really late and a lot of them got toasted early today. I heard that some folks didn't show because we had the storms move in the morning, and who the heck wants to get soaked vs Maryland. A bunch of fans left after that last Maryland TD. Game was over at that point and most people were just pissed.

I wouldn't say they lost interest but that kind of football is hard to watch, they kicked our ass all day long. If it continues all year ask me after the last home game.

Look, I’m just saying, if we’re looking for a way to raise $25m to get rid of this turkey without hurting the school… couldn’t hurt to ask, right?
let's send him a letter signed by all of us. there's no way he would say no, is there? btw, i can think of a few more badger alums that have millions of dollars laying around that could pitch in. a couple of watts come to mind. maybe a thomas. . .

That’s a great point, for less than $7m each they can fix this now.

I picked Russ because he believed(s?) that mineral water with bubbles prevents concussions, I figured he’d be the easiest mark.

I wish I could say I saw something yesterday that gave me hope about WI football.

I really thought I saw things against Alabama that made it look like maybe they were righting the ship.

Things I don't understand:

  1. The Offensive Line issues. Okay, we're young. Yesterday, I believe most of Maryland's Front Seven were 1st 2nd year guys. And, THEY THREW OUR GUYS AROUND LIKE RAG DOLLS. What the hell has happened to our offensive line? We have to have better players playing traditional Friday Night Football than we do playing traditional Saturday afternoon football. Where is their heart. Guys can be bigger and faster than you, but with a little pride and determination you can do the simple things like block them and at least slow down their rush. These guys don't have a traditional offensive lineman's chutzpah. Disgusting. And they must be poorly coached. Do they practice anything other than "Look Out Blocks?"
    1. The offensive line is the engine for everything.
      1. No holes for the running game.
      2. If they do create a hole, it's such a surprise that the running backs aren't into and through it.
      3. Passing - absolutely no time for a pass.
    2. They have to at least be coached to get in the way a bit.
  2. A punt and a field goal blocked? See above? What the hell is being coached. Most punt and field goal formations just by their simple essence make it almost impossible to get to the kicker if the blocker has some huevos and can hold his ground for a moment.
  3. Defensive secondary. I thought they played hard but man they don't appear to have any football smarts. You know the bomb is coming at the end of the first half and you let a guy get by you and/or you're not lined up deep to prevent it. Coaching and stupid football. Crazy, I thought it was Alabama's greatness. We just stink.
  4. QB play is atrocious. O'Neil just doesn't see the field and doesn't throw the ball on time. As I said yesterday, my San Diego State Buddies are happy I'm dealing with him. He isn't getting better as I hoped. I don't think he is going to get better.
    1. Although, I think it would be different if Edwards was there. He threw a couple passes on time and accurately. But, Edwards isn't coming back this year. Can he redshirt and get another year?
  5. COACHING.
    1. Our guys look lost on the simplest of stuff, regular every down plays.
    2. Our guys have their heads up their keisters when it counts situationally all too frequently.
    3. Why the hell are we calling trick plays and/or trick formations and/or weird formations - WITH THESE GUYS. They can't handle it. Every trick play has been blown up. STOP IT DAMN IT!!!!!!!!
  6. Recruiting and Player Talent:
    1. These are the guys that were recruited.
      1. It just can't be all NIL.
      2. A huge part of recruiting now will be is everybody sees what's going on on the field and I doubt players will be enthused about coming to WI.
    2. Didn't we get a commitment from a big name QB (at least for us)? Isn't he supposed to arrive next year? Bets on whether he decommits.
    3. Academics cannot be used as an excuse. These guys are not playing like smart people. Smart people may get beat, but they at least appear to know what they are supposed to be doing.
    4. And, honestly this is a poor excuse. These guys don't even appear to know what they are supposed to do. I don't believe they're even playing at their talent level. See Coaching.
Was there good stuff? Yes, the defense played hard. The secondary is just too porous.

Is there hope? No. I've already paid off my beer bets to the MI guys.

I'll still be there. Expectations adjusted.
