2025 NFL Season Thread

I’m just confused about the idea of a 42 year player taking a year off and thinking he’s gonna come back and walk into…. what? A starting job?
Rodgers thinks he will be Tom Brady play until he's 45 years old.

Nothing is set in stone yet.But the sense I get from around the league is that momentum around banning the tush push is growing.

I saw some guessing Murphy decided to do this and take the heat since he is retiring so he was wiling to be the guy to bring it up for a vote.

I still say it’s dumb to specifically ban this play but not just generally enforce the rule against pushing and pulling a player forward.

Also make it fair that the defense can line up over the center and have someone push the DT forward. Not fair you allow the QB to line up under center and be shoved from behind when the defense can't line up direct over the center and allow someone to push him. Allow the defense to do that and it's a fair play on both sides. whoever is stronger wins.

What's all this stupid talk on X about trading Willis. Are people that stupid to think he has trade value? He beat 2 bad teams with limited throwing. No team in the NFL thinks he's a starting QB. I swear some fans are foolish enough to think a team would give a 2nd or 3rd round pick for him. Willis is what he is a solid backup QB. At best maybe a team would throw a 5th or 6th round pick at GB for him. For that GB would just keep him for another year as a backup.
I think there will always be a need for a backup who won't go out there and "shit the bed". Now, Willis didn't do anything spectacular, but he ran the game plan and they won. what value that is in exchange for a draft pick - I don't know.

i know you think good qbs grow on trees, but there are a lot of not-so-good qbs playing in the nfl. many of them were 1st round picks like justin fields.

and you overlooking the third win that willis got the packers. it wasn't a game that he started, but in the game against the jags, love went out early in the 3rd quarter. on the very next jags possession, the packers defense let the jags go right down the field, score a td, and take the lead. but on the following possession willis led the packers on a td drive to retake the lead. yes, most of the plays on that drive were josh jacobs runs, but willis made two key plays that led to the td. he threw a 3rd and 4 pass to wicks for a first down, and on the next play scrambled for a 20 yard gain. and then the defense got a huge turnover, thanks to cooper forcing a fumble. on the ensuing drive, willis threw a td pass to tucker kraft, putting the packers up by ten. but the defense allowed the jags to score a field goal and a td on two successive drives, giving them a tie score with less than 2 minutes to play. willis throws a 51 yard strike to reed, putting the packers at the jags 15 with a minute to play. the packers keep the ball on the ground for the next two plays, forcing the jags to burn their last two timeouts. then willis does two keel downs to burn the rest of the clock and mcmanus makes a chip shot for the win.

that's a performance you would expect from a seasoned pro qb. it was a pressure situation for a backup qb coming in cold in a game he wasn't expected to play. i think there are a few starters in the nfl that couldn't pull it off. so i can understand that some fans think he has some trade value - especially since he still has another year on his rookie contract.

Just can't see anyone giving a 2nd or even a 3rd for him. Would some team maybe give a 4th for him. Maybe not sure on that but even then I think GB would rather keep him for that value.

At the time there was discussion about whether or not this play should’ve been blown dead because Kuhn helped him keep his balance. That’s how close they used to call this stuff. I don’t think they got rid of the rule, they just don’t call it any more.

The whole icon pic when Mercein had his hands up showing he wasn't pushing Starr forward...then again, isn't the rule against pulling the player forward and not so much the pushing?
