One look at the Wisconsin Badgers depth chart at quarterback and you can see something lacking — depth.

The Badgers have taken steps to remedy that situation in the 2018 recruiting class though. On Friday, they got a second commit for the 2018 class as three-star quarterback Chase Wolf announced his pledge to the Badgers.

He joins previously committed quarterback Ben Bryant in the fold for UW. Both knew that a two-quarterback class was very likely for the Badgers, with neither shying away from the competition or depth chart ahead of them.

Wolf is the No. 44 ranked Pro-Style quarterback and the Cincinnati St. Xavier product is the No. 45 ranked player in the state of Ohio. He chose Wisconsin over finalists Boston College and South Carolina.

Other offers for Wolf came from Pittsburgh, Cincinnati, Maryland and a few other schools.

Wisconsin will have five scholarship quarterbacks on the roster once Wolf and Bryant are in the fold.

Depth will be there for the long-term as well and UW will be able to concentrate efforts on one quarterback per class going forward. That will help the staff and assistant quarterbacks coach Jon Budmayr.

As for Wolf and his game? There isn’t a whole lot of film on him, as he was a player who competed with a Penn State commit and a more “highly touted” guy. However, Wolf took advantage of his opportunity and has become a mainstay at Cincy powerhouse St. Xavier.

What you do see stand out on film is his ability to make things happen with his arm out of the pocket. He adds a dimension as a runner that few quarterbacks on UW’s roster right now have, averaging nearly 10 yards a carry.

He also wasn’t a slouch as a passer, completing 60 percent of his passes for 1,291 yards and 15 touchdowns to just six interceptions. All of that while splitting time with a four-star recruit ahead of him in Sean Clifford.

The other thing that really stands out is his willingness to do what the team needs as a competitor. He isn’t going to make the throw that may get picked, rather living to fight another down instead. That kind of heady play early on in a quarterback’s career is hard to teach, but Wolf has that.

His arm strength isn’t going to blow you away, but it is not bad by any means either. Everything about him screams consistent player, which is something that this coaching staff can certainly work with as a base.

Wisconsin’s class has 10 players in it now and currently sits at the No. 21 spot in the 247sports national team rankings. UW sits

Interesting that they took 2 in this class as it is going to be a pretty small class - probably less than 20.

Good to see coach Chryst filling up that QB room. It's been a borderline problem for a couple of years and will be thin again this coming fall. Hopefully they will be 4-5 deep from now on.
