The 2015-16 Badger Men’s hockey season will get underway this Friday night, October 9th , at the Kohl Center. With the new season come ten new faces added to the Wisconsin roster.
Introducing the Freshman Defensive Unit
Peter Tischke, Defenseman, #6, 6-1, 205 lbs. from Hinsdale, Illinois
Tischke comes to Wisconsin after three seasons in the USHL playing for the Chicago Steel. At Chicago he managed to play 112 games over the three seasons racking up 19 points just last year in 56 games.
Tishcke’s size should be his main contribution this year to the Badger defense. He is a physical defenseman who isn’t afraid to go out and hit players, something Wisconsin was lacking last year.
Tischke committed back in May 2012 to Wisconsin. Citing that the coaches were a strong pull for him saying they were “the best of the best”.
Patrick Sexton, Defenseman, #4, 6-1, 198 lbs. from Ottawa, Ontario
Sexton moves down south of the boarder to Wisconsin to play hockey for the Badgers. The Ottawa native spent his last two season with the Penticton Vees of British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL).
Sexton is not the first Penticton alumnus to come to the Badgers both Jedd Soleway and Joel Rumpel played for the Vees in their Junior Hockey career.
Sexton poured in 5 goals and 30 points in his career with the Vees helping the team win the BCHL championship last year.
Sexton is not afraid to throw his frame around either, and is known to throw some viscous hits on the ice. Just a YouTube search for Patrick Sexton will show any Badger fan that.
Matt Jurusik, Goaltender, #30 , 6-2, 193 lbs. from La Grange, Illinois
Jursuik stays in state as he joins the Badgers after an incredible season playing goalie for the Janesville Jets in the North American Hockey League (NAHL).
Jurusik led the Jets to a regular season title and leading the NAHL with 33 wins, a 1.57 Goals against average, .939 save percentage and 7 shutouts.
Jurusik will battle senior Adam Miller and redshirt freshman Gabe Grunwald for the starting job between the pipes.
The Badgers freshman will be a crucial part of this year’s defense as lines and pairing begin to form sources say both Tischke and Sexton may be paired up as Wisconsin’s third defensive line.
