Andrew Billings, DL, Baylor
Ht: 6’2 Wt: 310lbs
Positives-
Displays nice technique disengaging by using his strength and hands. Uses the offensive lineman’s lack of balance and pulls him down. Swallows up the running back in the backfield.
Here he slaps the offensive lineman’s hands away and is able to dip-and-rip just enough to get by him. While he does not possess refined pass rush moves, he shows a great motor and tenacity.
Negatives-
Here, the offensive lineman is able to block Billings out of the play when Billings tries to get too far up-field, and the running back is able to run right through the hole vacated by Billings.
On this play it looks like he tries a swim move but the offensive lineman is able to use Billings’s momentum against him and blocks him out of the play. This appears to be through the gap Billings was responsible for.
Overall- Billings is a very good looking defensive tackle prospect. He is scheme versatile with the ability to line up as a 1 or 3 tech in a 4-3 defense or be an effective nose tackle in a 3-4 defense. Is a very gifted athlete, broke several Texas state records in the weight room, has been clocked in a sub 5.00 second forty yard dash and vertical jumped 32″. A lot of his game right now is predicated on strength; it works very well for him in college but he will need to learn to use his hands better, particularly in the pass game. Billings is a tireless worker, a menace disrupting plays on the inside and chasing ball carriers on the outside with surprising quickness. While he doesn’t give up ground vs double teams he can get in trouble losing his gap responsibilities when he tries to make a play in the backfield. I’d like to see him keep his head up in those situations to diagnose the play better then disengage from the blocker. At only 19 years old (will be 20 in March) Billings has a lot of what teams are looking for with a lot of potential. At this stage in his career he’d be a very good run stuffing defensive tackle, but, with proper coaching, he has the physical tools to develop into a very good pass rusher as well.
Projection: 1st round

- Has a good build for a Nose Tackle, bubble butt
- Plays with good leverage
- Extremely strong upper and lower body
- Works hard to get off of blocks
- Uses his hands/arms well to stay clean
- Doesn’t give up ground vs double teams
- Very athletic for a man his size
- Shows good footwork
- Displays a quick closing burst
- Good motor- will chase plays
- Flashes a rip move
- Does a nice job keeping his feet moving-constantly working

- Appears hesitant at times when running a stunt
