The big cheese spoke before Green Bay's final minicamp practice to discuss the plans for the start of training camp.

Although the Green Bay Packers do not begin their 2016 training camp until the end of July, we now know the unofficial and official start dates of camp as well as a few details about how practices will be scheduled this summer. Head coach Mike McCarthy revealed those items in his final press conference of the summer, held before today's minicamp practice.

McCarthy revealed that the report date for players will actually be July 25th, one day later than the July 24th date which has been reported widely. He also noted that the team's first practice will be held the next day, on Tuesday, July 26th.

The reason for the discrepancy was made clear by McCarthy this morning - he specifically made the point that he wanted to start camp as late as possible. So while July 24th was the earliest that the Packers could report, he was able to push it back another day. Still, the team has no choice but to start earlier than usual due to the Packers playing in this year's Hall of Fame Game on August 7th.

One other interesting note is that the team plans to hold more practices in the evening this year, a drastic departure from training camps in the recent past. Traditionally, the Packers only held a single practice at night, and that was the Family Night event. However, look for more work under the lights at Ray Nitschke Field this summer.

This year's Family Night scrimmage has already been scheduled, however; the event will be held on Sunday, July 31st.

APC will bring you the full training camp practice schedule as soon as it is announced. In the meantime, follow along with today's final minicamp practice in our tracker (posting shortly) and come on back for more roster analysis and discussion throughout the next five weeks as we await July 25th's arrival.
