The signing leaves Green Bay with just two unsigned draft picks.
The Green Bay Packers continue to lock their 2016 draft picks into their rookie contracts. After signing all four of their third-day picks to contracts during rookie minicamp, we have the first report today of a day-two pick signing his deal.
That report concerns second-round pick Jason Spriggs, the offensive tackle from Indiana, and comes courtesy of the Baltimore Sun's Aaron Wilson. The deal is reportedly worth $5.004 million in total and includes a $1.839 million signing bonus. That value matches almost exactly with Over the Cap's projection of the contract for the 48th pick in the 2016 draft. Therefore, Spriggs' contract likely breaks down as follows:
- Signing Bonus: $1,839,492
- 2016: Base salary $450,000; cap hit $909,873
- 2017: Base salary $677,468; cap hit $1,137,341
- 2018: Base salary $904,936; cap hit $1,364,809
- 2019: Base salary $1,132,404; cap hit $1,592,277
Based on the OTC projections, the 48th pick in the 2016 draft is the final selection to have a contract value exceeding $5 million.
The Packers now have just two draft picks who have not reportedly signed their rookie contracts: first-round pick Kenny Clark and third-rounder Kyler Fackrell.
