Was talking in shoutbox, so thought I'd post my reasoning here.
Rodgers is due $41.62M (non-guaranteed) in his final two years. No dead money.
Tear up the last 2 yrs of the contract.
Convert those 2 years of salary to a $42M signing bonus.
Structure the contract along these lines.............9key: s/b=signing bonus; G=guaranteed; NG=non-guaranteed)
2018: s/b - $6M; G-$8M; NG-$0 Total cap hit $14M
2019: s/b - $6M; G-$14M; NG-$6M Total cap hit $26M
2020: s/b - $6M; G-$16M; NG-$6M Total cap hit $28M
2021: s/b - $6M; G-$20M; NG-$6M Total cap hit $32M
2022: s/b - $6M; G-$0; NG-$28M Total cap hit $34M
2023: s/b - $6M; G-$0; NG-$30M Total cap hit $36M
2024: s/b - $6M; G-$0; NG-$34M Total cap hit $40M
totals:
Total Guarantees - $100M ($42M s/b; $58M base/roster/workout)
Total Non-Guarantees - $110M
Total Contract - 7 yrs/$210M
Yearly average - $30M/year
