The Packers added another player to their backfield.

Fitting that on the day Acme Packing Company previews the running back position, the Green Bay Packers bring in some additional competition for training camp. According to ESPN's Rob Demovsky, the team signed Brandon Ross, an undrafted rookie who spent time earlier this offseason with the Minnesota Vikings.

A 5-foot-10, 201-pound tailback, Ross led the Terrapins in rushing yards (958) and touchdowns (10) last season while posting an impressive 6.5 yards per carry. Though he never heard his name called during the draft this past April, he signed on with Minnesota soon thereafter. That stint lasted all of three weeks, and he remained on the open market until landing with the Packers Wednesday.

Ross joins a crowded backfield that includes Eddie Lacy, James Starks and a handful of former undrafted free agents. By all appearances, Ross' main competition for a roster spot will come from John Crockett, who spent time on the team's 53 last year.

With Ross signed, the Packers' headcount now stands at 89.

I like Ross a lot... watch him as a dark horse in camp. He's going to give Crockett all he can handle and is a better receiver and pass blocker then Starks.

some pre-draft stuff:

Running back Brandon Ross -- 5-10, 210 -- ran the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds with the wind and 4.7 seconds against the wind. He had a 37 1/2-inch vertical and 9-foot-10 broad jump. He did the 20-yard short shuttle in 4.28 seconds and the three-cone drill in 6.75 seconds. He did 10 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press. He caught the ball really well in his positional workout.

Unearthing a potential sleeper candidate is something every draft prognosticator is looking for and recently Gil Brandt of NFL.comreleased a list of 15 names, he believes are hidden gems in this years draft. These players were not invited to the NFL Scouting Combine, but stood out at their College Pro Days, enhancing their draft stock in his opinion:

1.) Isiah Cage, OT, Wisconsin-Eau Claire
2.) Jakeem Grant, WR, Texas Tech
3.) Marcus Henry, C, Boise State
4.) Tyrone Holmes, DE, Montana
5.) D.J. Hunter, S, Marshall
6.) Marcus Johnson, WR, Texas
7.) Dillon Lee, LB, Alabama
8.) Mitch Mathews, WR, BYU
9.) Greg Milhouse, Jr., DT, Campbell
10.) Jhurell Pressley, RB, New Mexico
11.) Nick Ritcher, OT, Richmond
