Wisconsin Badgers football is nearly back, and one of the signs we are nearly there is the release of game times and broadcast channels. On Wednesday, Big Ten partners ESPN and Fox Sports announced their early season schedules.
Amongst those games announced were three involving the Badgers. First up is Wisconsin’s game at BYU, which will take place at 2:30pm CT on either ABC or ESPN. Conference clashes with Maryland and Illinois were also set — both will take place at 11am.
Wisconsin will meet Maryland at Camp Randall Stadium on Oct. 21, while heading to Illinois the very next week for exactly the same kickoff time. Neither of those games’ television audience has been announced, but it is hard to see anyone but the Big Ten Network picking up those two matchups.
Those games join the opener, which we knew would be an 8pm CT start on ESPN on Friday, Sept. 1. against Utah State. With the BYU and Utah State times known, only the Badgers kick-off against Florida Atlantic in Week 2 remains unknown on the non-conference slate.
Wisconsin last met BYU in the 2013 season, taking care of the Cougars 27-17 in what is our No. 93 game in the Camp Randall 100 Greatest Games countdown. The overall series sits at 1-1 after BYU beat Wisconsin in Madison back in 1980.
After one season off, the Badgers and Terps will get back together on the field. UW won both contests easily in 2014 and 2015 to open the series between these two Big Ten foes.
As for Illinois, the Badgers will put a seven-game winning streak in the series on the line. It is the longest streak of victories for either side of this series that dates back to 1985 and has been played 83 times prior to this season. Illinois leads the all-time series 39-37-7 and are 20-17-3 against the Badgers at home in Champagne.
