Wisconsin wrestling head coach Barry Davis is stepping down at the end of the season. That announcement came from the UW Athletic Department early Monday afternoon, just hours after the Badgers advanced seven of their 10 wrestlers to the 2018 NCAA Division I National Championships. The move reportedly comes after a recent meeting between Davis and athletic director Barry Alvarez. Davis, who has...

Not that Wisconsin has ever been a wrestling power (especially in the nation's toughest wrestling conference) it'll be interesting to see how Alvarez will proceed with Coach Davis' replacement, as he's done a good job of getting a good share of the top wrestlers from the state to stay here.

Has coached three NCAA champions (Jeff Walter ('96), Donny Pritzlaff ('00, '01), and Andrew Howe ('10)), 8 B1G champs, 22 All-Americans, and the best season as a team was probably 2010 when we finished 3rd in the B1G and 4th in the NCAA (from 2005-11 the squad finished 5th, 7th, 2nd, 6th, 4th, 3rd, and 4th in Conference. Since then the finishes have been 12th, 10th, 7th, 8th, 8th, 8th (though that last one also had a 13th spot in the NCAA).

If Alvarez is looking for a younger guy who's out there right now to come in, Pritzlaff is an assistant coach at Rutgers, heck, there's a whole bunch of guys out there who could come in here and run this team and not do worse than Davis.

Alvarez will probably go with what's worked best for him. Draw in younger guys who have Badger connections, in one way or another. It seems to build a loyalty of purpose you don't often see at Universities.

What's better than a past All-American, who knows what it takes to reach the top? He must be totally dedicated to the sport, and coming home would probably be something he'd really like. He'd also be pretty solid when it came to recruiting, in my opinion. Don't know anything about him, just know you gotta be special to be as good as he was, and stay in as a coach.

One of the Jordan brothers would be great.

One of the Jordan brothers would be great.

Of the younger two Jordan Brothers: Ben is somewhere in the Professional Wrestling circuit, and Jordan only graduated in 2016 and just took an assistant coaching job at Oklahoma State this season.

Of the older two Jordan Brothers: Jim is a Representative of Ohio in the US Congress, and Jeff is coaching at the high school level somewhere in Ohio, though they both still run a high level wrestling camp clinic under Jeff's name.

I'm in Ohio and the Jordan brothers(Jim and Jeff) are icons in this part.
