Aldon Smith Released by 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers have parted ways with Aldon Smith following the linebacker's latest run-in with the law.
ESPN's Jim Trotter first reported the news while Rand Getlin of NFL Network provided the team's official statement:

Would not want him in Green Bay. Guy has had way to many problems and given several second chances but keeps getting in trouble. Guy has a lot of talent but to stupid not to stay out of trouble and say and do stupid things.

He has a severe addiction. Rational thought goes out the window when under the influence. I hope this is rock bottom for him and he gets help, one day at a time

I suspect he sees a 1 year ban. If he can get help and stay clean he'd be worth a look. Huge talent and still young. I know it's a huge risk but man he can be so good.

He and Justin Blackmon, both are supremely talented but love other things more than football.

He's proven an inability to make great decisions away from the field.
