Practice Starts at: 10:10 AM CT

General:

  • Not full pads, slower pace.
  • Quick practice, only about an hour long.
Not Practicing: QB Aaron Rodgers (Vet Rest), TE Marcedes Lewis (Vet Rest), OLB Preston Smith (Vet Rest), OLB Rashan Gary (Groin), RB Aaron Jones (Hamstring), DL Kenny Clark (Groin), WR EQSB (Hamstring), WR Juwann Winfree (Shoulder), WR Chris Blair (Ankle), CB Stanford Samuels (?)

Injuries: OT David Bakhtiari (PUP ACL), DT Kingsley Keke (NFI Ankle), CB Kevin King (NFI Hamstring), OLB Za'Darius Smith (NFI Back), CB Will Redmond (NFI Foot), LB Isaiah McDuffie (NFI Hamstring), OLB Randy Ramsey (Ankle), LB Kamal Martin (Knee)

Offense:

  • Aaron Rodgers, Marcedes Lewis and Preston Smith have veteran rest days. Tae looks like he's being held out on some stuff too.
  • Hackett working closely with Love on his footwork in QB drills—we know this is an area of emphasis for him.
  • Rodgers out here at practice now, observing the offense from right behind the QB. He’s inches away from the huddle leaning in to hear how Jordan Love relays the plays.
  • 1st team OL to start: Jenkins - Runyan - Myers - Patrick - Turner
  • Seeing Deguara in the backfield on few occasions to start.
  • Braden now in at LG with the 1s. Braden, Patrick and Runyan continue to rotate. Runyan also at center with the 2s.
  • Definitely seeing more of Isaac Nauta than what I did two weeks ago when camp started.
  • AJ Dillon lining up out wide. As was Patrick Taylor on a separate rep.
  • Not in full pads today and effectively going at walkthrough pace. Still, Amari Rodgers finds a way to impress. Nice diving catch on a left out route from Jordan Love. The pass just a bit wide, but Rodgers went and got it.
  • Patrick and Turner create a nice hole for Dillon to run thru on the right side.
  • A nice toss by Love to Cobb in the end zone, who makes a diving catch. Only Cobb had a chance at that ball.
  • Love and Hill not on same page to pass in flat Hill wasn’t looking.
  • Just great to see Deguara out there again. In the backfield, slot, in-line—he’s all over.
Defense:

  • Rashan Gary out with groin injury again.
  • Z is outside with the rehab group today. Up until today he was always inside.
  • Jonathan Garvin, Tipa Galeai and T.J. Slaton a couple young guys getting a chance up front on defense with the 1s with Gary, Z. Smith and Clark out right now.
  • Slaton out with 1st team IDL again with Clark out and Keke on NFI list. Lancaster and Lowry with him.
  • De’Vondre Campbell. Huge (literally) presence in the middle of the defense. Can get sideline to sideline quickly in coverage.
  • Nice PBU by Hollman on Thompkins along the sidelines.
  • One thing that’s been missing at practice, dime packages. Plenty of nickel but our days of heavy dime might be behind us.
  • LB group seems pretty well defined: 1s: Campbell and Barnes 2s: Burks and Summers
  • Campbell busts thru line to make play in backfield.
  • Funchess limped off earlier but he’s back in.

Press Conference Notes:

Matt LaFleur
Presser

  • Matt LaFleur says Oren Burks and Ty Summers have been progressing on defense. They remain core special teamers, however. "Those guys have definitely been major players for us on special teams for us."
  • Matt LaFleur saying a summer with preseason games isn’t necessarily preferable to the all camp approach from last year. Says they got into a nice rhythm last year and there’s pros and cons to both.
  • Matt LaFleur says the Packers have discussed how to handle the national anthem this season, but "we have not come to any conclusion as of this moment." The team stayed in locker room in protest for national anthem throughout 2020 season.
  • Matt LaFleur said Patrick Taylor has looked good after the year off, praised his studying habits: "You should see his notebook." Says it's almost as detailed as the quarterbacks'.
  • LaFleur says Arthur Smith may have seen LaFleur getting his hair and clothes right while “Arthur was trying to get his hair right with that Just For Men.” He then took off his hat and said “You know he’s younger than me right?”
  • Matt LaFleur on new ILB De'Vondre Campbell: "He's a pretty good-looking specimen. He's tall and long and can cover." He also says Campbell has good instincts "that are tough to coach" and he's "very slippery" in pass rush.
Oren Burks Presser

  • Oren Burks says he wants to "change the culture" on special teams, make that a difference-making part of the game.
  • Asked Oren Burks how he feels as a linebacker: "I think it's growing. I'm feeling extremely confident this year." He knows special teams is his ticket, but he's constantly focusing on defensive part of his game as well.
Reggie Begelton Presser

  • WR Reggie Begelton, who has worked a ton with Jordan Love this offseason, on the second-year QB's growth: "In his reads. He's a lot quicker in recognizing defenses. He understands where receivers are supposed to be, and honestly, he does his job. He's doing good."

Can you keep Burks and Summers just for special teams only since the provide zero on defense.

Davante Adams says he had hoped to have contract done by now. He says still a work in progress. He says he thinks outperformed contract does not have off field issues kind of frustrated over not having deal yet.
