Nice idea Captain !

Waters over Hawkins- coin flip, can't argue.
Janis over Yancey- strictly based on his ST skills but you are likely right, not many TT picks get clipped and Yancey is well thought of enough to get snagged before we can PS stash him.
Punter- Schum is on thin ice but I can't project a kid I've never seen punt a ball to beat him out at this point in the offseason.
Guion- Price or Ringo get to play for a month until he fulfills his suspension. Your parenthetical implies as much but thought I'd offer my opinion on who fills his chair in the interim.

Janis over Davis; 8 O Linemen instead of 9 with Barclay or Patrick cut; 5 D Linemen - Guion gone even when the suspension ends; 4 Safeties instead of 5 with either Brice or Evans or both gone; 5 or maybe even 6 RBs instead of 4 with Mays or Michael kept - Mays cross-trained at Fullback (no way Kerridge stays, maybe more use of TEs at FB); I wouldn't be surprised if they cut Callahan and try to keep him on the practice squad again since we signed the BYU kid as a backup QB also.

Somebody is for sure gonna get injured, and somebody among the UDFAs probably will stand out and be kept also.

It should be an interesting preseason with all these quality (apparently) RBs and WRs competing.

Agree with most everything Captain, but like JBlood I've got a few things I see different.

I think they only go with 8xOL as JB suggests. They'll try to keep Patrick and/or their late round guy on the PS. With Barclay, Murphy and Spriggs they have enough versatility to get by with 8, besides they never have more than 8 active on game day.

I agree with 4xRB, but I also think Mays could be the third guy instead of Jones. In the past they have kept the big back over the smaller guy. They already have Monty.

I think they keep 7xWR. Allison, Davis, Janis, Yancey and Dupree will battle for 4 spots. I would not be surprised if any one of the 4 are cut. Personally, I agree on Janis in that if one or both of the rookies get it done on ST, Janis may well be gone.

Also agree with JB that Guion might well be gone if they like what they see from Lowry, Francois and Adams. Chances are good though that somebody will get injured and he comes back.

Agree with you about 5 safeties, but only because I think Jones may well count as a "hybrid" LB when all is said and done.

Elliot keeps flashing but doesn't get it done consistently. Thinking we may see his spot given to one of the "no names".

The roster is pretty much pre ordained except for like maybe 5 of the bottom spots?
Thinking Guion is gone (unless we suffer two injuries on DL) Stanbeck and Waters are my two UDFAs to make it. Tripp is my designated ST replacement for Janis. Not as fast, but also backs up at a position with big questions about depth. Also listed Jones as a LB because I think that's where most snaps will come for him. (because we'll be ahead in most games with the opposition throwing to try to catch up!)

My angle:
Offense - 25
QB (2)
Aaron Rodgers, Brett Hundley
RB (4)
Ty Montgomery, Jamaal Williams, Aaron Jones, William Stanbeck
FB (1)
Aaron Ripkowski
WR (6)
Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, Davante Adams, Geronimo Allison, Trevor Davis, DeAngelo Yancey
TE (4)
Martellus Bennett, Lance Kendricks, Richard Rodgers, Beau Sandland
OL (8)
David Bakhtiari, Lane Taylor, Corey Linsley, Jahri Evans, Bryan Bulaga, Jason Spriggs, Kyle Murphy, Kofi Amichia

Defense - 25

DL (5)
Mike Daniels, Kenny Clark, Dean Lowry, Montravius Adams, Ricky Jean Francois
OLB (6)
Clay Matthews, Nick Perry, Vince Biegel, Kyler Fackrell, Jayrone Elliott, Jordan Tripp
ILB (4)
Jake Ryan, Blake Martinez, Josh Jones, Joe Thomas
CB (6)
Davon House, Kevin King, Damarious Randall, LaDarius Gunter, Quinten Rollins, Herb Waters
S (4)
Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Morgan Burnett, Kentrell Brice, Marwin Evans
ST (3)
Mason Crosby, Jacob Schum, LS

PS candidates: QB Joe Callahan, C Jacob Flores, G Lucas Patrick, ILB Cody Heiman, OLB Johnathan Calvin, RB Devante Mays, TE Aaron Peck, WR Malachi Dupre,

Note: pre Memorial Day only, reserve the right to change this after July 4th.

Tripp is my designated ST replacement for Janis. Not as fast, but also backs up at a position with big questions about depth.

just using your comment as a springboard for this article:

reggie gilbert looks to seize opportunity at linebacker

The Packers have a strong track record with undrafted free agents, but especially outside linebackers. The position has seen six college free agents make the opening 53-man roster since 2011, representing nearly a third of the 22 undrafted rookies who made the team during that span.

Gilbert hopes to add his name to that list of success stories after overwhelming depth at the position resulted in him spending his rookie year on the Packers’ practice squad.

The opportunity still proved invaluable to the 6-foot-3, 261-pound linebacker, as it aided his transition to his new position and helped Gilbert adjust to life on special teams after he played almost exclusively on defense at Arizona.

A four-year starter and team MVP as a senior, Gilbert had 143 tackles and 14 sacks in 57 games with 47 starts for the Wildcats from 2011-15. He found his prior experience rushing inside at Arizona provided a foundation for what linebackers are asked to do in Dom Capers’ flexible scheme in Green Bay.

Offense (25)
  • QB (2): Aaron Rodgers, Brett Hundley
  • RB/FB (4): Ty Montgomery, Aaron Ripkowski, Jamaal Williams, Aaron Jones
  • WR (7): Jordy Nelson, Davante Adams (contract year), Randall Cobb, DeAngelo Yancey, Trevor Davis (speed), Malachi Dupre (like Yancey, will be gone if placed on PS) , Jeff Janis (or Geronimo Allison … tough call, going back and forth on this pick)
  • TE (3): Martellus Bennett, Richard Rodgers (reliable), Lance Kendricks
  • OL (9): David Bakhtiari, Bryan Bulaga, Corey Linsley, Lane Taylor, Jahri Evans, Jason Spriggs (hope he improves), Kyle Murphy, Don Barclay (the Swiss Army Knife… can do most anything on OL, but nothing spectacular), Lucas Patrick
Defense (25)
  • DL (6): Mike Daniels, Kenny Clark, Ricky Jean-Francois, Dean Lowry, Montravius Adams (looking forward to this one)
  • OLB (5): Nick Perry (hope he performs to new contract), Jayrone Elliott (big play ability… at times; with Peppers and Jones gone, can’t wait to see once and for all if he’s for real), Kyler Fackrell (hope this guy improves in 2nd year), Vince Biegel (ST guy), Reggie Gilbert (okay RTB, you convinced me...)
  • ILB (3): Clay Matthews (I like Clay at ILB when two years ago in the position he stayed healthy and earned Pro Bowl spot), Jake Ryan, Blake Martinez (stay healthy this year…)
  • CB (6): Quinten Rollins (Do or die year), Damarious Randall (same, hope these to can stay healthy so no exuses…), Kevin King (he’ll be starting quickly), Davon House (starter), LaDarius Gunter (eh…), Lenzy Pipkins (ST, intriguing potential and tough pick over Waters, Hawkins and Goodson… my second dark horse pick)
  • S (5): Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Morgan Burnett, Josh Jones (another player I can’t wait to watch! LB potential), Kentrell Brice (another LB helper), Marwin Evans (ST)
Special Teams (3)
  • K: Mason Crosby
  • P: Justin Vogel (?)
  • LS: Brett Goode (he’ll be re-signed)

Reggie Gilbert (okay RTB, you convinced me...)

oh no. i don't need that kind of pressure. nailbite)

seriously, though. his 40 time seems a little slow for olb in my opinion. jayrone elliot says gilbert could be a "stud", so he's got that going for him. which is nice. i think jayrone needs to worry about his own studliness.

From ESPN http://www.espn.com/blog/green-bay-...ter-projection-includes-seven-receivers-again

Quarterbacks (2): Aaron Rodgers, Brett Hundley

They could go with three if they feel like they have to keep Joe Callahan or BYU rookie Taysom Hill on the roster, for fear someone would claim them like the Saints did last year with Callahan. They were lucky to get him back after he was released at midseason.

Running backs (5): Ty Montgomery, Jamaal Williams, Aaron Jones, Devante Mays, Aaron Ripkowski
Montgomery wasn't even a running back when last season began. Williams, Jones and Mays all were in college. Ripkowski, a fullback who hardly ever carries the ball, might be the most experienced among this group, and he'll have to get over his NFC Championship Game fumble.

Receivers (7): Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb, Davante Adams, Trevor Davis, Jeff Janis, Malachi Dupre, DeAngelo Yancey
Geronimo Allison won't count on the 53 during his Week 1 suspensionand if the Packers believe he's worthy of a roster spot, perhaps they could sneak one of the younger receivers through the practice squad after the opener. Any of the young receivers could be on the bubble if the Packers don't keep seven wideouts for the second straight year. Keep an eye on Max McCaffrey -- the older brother of Christian McCaffrey -- who was elevated from the practice squad in the playoffs last season.

Tight end (3): Martellus Bennett, Richard Rodgers, Lance Kendricks
Rodgers would be the only holdover from last season, but the Packers want to use more multiple-tight-end sets this season after adding the two veterans in free agency.

Offensive line (9): David Bakhtiari, Bryan Bulaga, Corey Linsley, Jahri Evans, Lane Taylor, Jason Spriggs, Don Barclay, Kyle Murphy, Lucas Patrick
Evans should replace T.J. Lang at right guard, but the Packers want to develop a younger, long-term replacement, which is why they could keep a 10th lineman -- perhaps rookie sixth-round pick Kofi Amichia.

Defensive line (5): Mike Daniels, Kenny Clark, Ricky Jean Francois, Dean Lowry, Montravius Adams
Letroy Guion won’t count for the first four games because he’s suspended. The Packers can decide after that whether they want to bring him back.

Outside linebackers (5): Clay Matthews, Nick Perry, Jayrone Elliott, Kyler Fackrell, Vince Biegel.
The Packers don't have a lot of experienced depth after losing Julius Peppers and Datone Jones in free agency. Biegel, a fourth-round pick from Wisconsin, may not be ready for the start of camp because of foot surgery but is expected to be good to go by Week 1. If he's not, they may have to keep Reggie Gilbert, who spent all of last year on the practice squad.

Inside linebackers (3): Jake Ryan, Blake Martinez, Joe Thomas.
This looks thin, but they plan to use safeties Morgan Burnett and Josh Jones as hybrid inside linebackers.

Cornerbacks (6): Davon House, Kevin King, LaDarius Gunter, Damarious Randall, Quinten Rollins, Lenzy Pipkins

The Packers could have two new starters -- House and King -- while Randall and Rollins should move into the slot and play in the nickel and dime packages. Pipkins is an undrafted rookie, and the Packers always keep one or two of those.

Safeties (5): Morgan Burnett, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Josh Jones, Kentrell Brice, Marwin Evans
No one made more plays in the offseason practices than Jones, a second-round pick. Brice, a former undrafted rookie who stepped in last season, might be the hardest hitter of the group.

Specialists (3): Mason Crosby, Justin Vogel, Derek Hart
Vogel and Hart are far from locks as the punter and long-snapper, respectively, but there's no competition on the roster. Veteran Brett Goode could return as the snapper.

I'm going a slightly different direction. Why not try to guess who gets put on IR in camp this year? I'm going with Bahk...
