What to do at guard?

Agree Barclay is not an option. Don't know about Lucas since I have no clue what he's capable of - no snaps to base anything on for me.

In principle I don't like the idea of an UDFA being counted on to start. Most were UDFA's for a reason. Other than EDS, has there been a reliable OL starter that began as an UDFA since TT took over? Even further back than TT?

I'd like to see an OG drafted in Rd 3 or 4. TT can look at his own track record. His best OL have come via the draft and only 1 was taken particularly early - Bulaga. Go get a guy in the mid-rounds and let's get ready.

If only we had some Pro Bowl caliber guys we could plug in at guard......

Nobody wants to hear this, but.....
TT isn't going to take a CB early. IMO his perspective is that Randall is a #1 CB and House is a very capable #2. I believe TT sees Randall and Rollins as having sophomore slumps due to injuries that they were pressed to play with. So, if CBs are off the table in the first two rounds then we can hope an edge rusher will be had in the first two rounds. I think we'll see our starting RG taken in the 2nd or 3rd round. I hope i'm wrong about the CB thing, but to prioritize a CB means he would have to admit Randall was a mistake and he is NOT going to do that.

So...will Freeney still be there at 61? Elflein? Or maybe Asiata in the third?

If Lamp is there at 29 I wonder if Ted takes him. I think most of us fans would not like it as taking a guard in the first round is rare. Granted Lamp is a plug and play guy but that's usually a position you don't draft high

"I really don’t want to get into that, but I will say this: Bryan Bulaga, I thought had his best year at right tackle last year," McCarthy told reporters on Tuesday in Phoenix during a break at the NFL annual meetings. "And I’m not really looking to move him because I think -- I don’t think, I know -- that Bryan and David gave us an outstanding combination of right and left tackle play."

He sputtered through this.... AKA Pillsbury dough boy is lying through his teeth because he doesn't want to show his hand.

Never ever take anything that comes out in the weeks leading up to the draft with any value. No one wants to show their hand right now. It's all smoke and mirrors.

Only a fool would take him at 29. Just watched some game film on him and not sure you draft the guy before late 2nd. Another combine hero.

Guard is prob the easiest spot to replace. Nothing against Lang or Sitton. I hated to see them go but we didn't miss a beat when we lost Sitton. I don't see much loss when we find someone to fill in for Lang. It isn't a LT.

I also do not want a OG in the 1st. TT has been really good at finding guys on day 2 or 3. I feel the biggest loss is the depth. Losing 3 vets, it would be nice to bring in 1 FA body just for the exp factor.

Absolute "no" from me regarding an OG in Rd 1. Sometimes the draft falls a certain way and a non-premium position ends up as BPA, but other than P, K, and FB, OG is probably the least premium position on either side of the ball. TT has his own experience to fall back on. He's found a number of solid OG and OTs in the mid-rounds. Stick with the formula unless you have to have a starting LT right away.

Is it possible that TT passes on CB in Rd 1 - absolutely. Do I think he'd take one if a gift fell to him - yes. I agree that TT's assessment of the CB situation may be very different from ours, but his willingness to let one of his favorite young players, Hyde, depart in FA has me thinking he sees the lack of speed in the secondary and that adding some depth and speed back there is still part of the plan.

I'm sure he'd rather have a pass rusher in Rd 1 or perhaps DL help because he's thinner there and things drop off more quickly this year. Since this is an especially deep CB draft, he might find a good one in Rds 2-3.

i think the reason he let hyde go had nothing to do with speed. he just didn't want to pay him as much as the bills did.
