Of course the Packers won't fail. They'll win their allotted number of games. We all guess anywhere from 10 to about 13, maybe 14. Now, if they were coming off a 7-9 season, that wouldn't be bad news, it would show improvement.

The problem is, being stuck on 10-13 wins, then falling on your face in the playoffs, often getting blown out by an opponent, does not equate to winning. That's failure, plain and simple. The question is, why do we keep looking back, and saying; "Yeah! But we won 13 games! That was just a fluke!"

The truth is, it's not a fluke, it's a formula for losing that becomes acceptable because you've had some success, therefore.... all is well.

This is part of the "participation trophy" philosophy that starts with children. Everyone gets a trophy just for showing up, and guess what? We don't keep score, because it might make someone feel less about themselves.

Lombardi said; "I finished 2nd once. I didn't like it." I guess that pretty much covers how I feel.

It's time for McCarthy and Thompson to visit a new Lombardi Trophy, or hit the road!

I think there are many ways to look at the issue. Green Bay last won a title 7 years ago yet this staff is still treated as if it were last year, which is odd.

Flip side you can't argue with the consistency the last 6 years even if it's frustrating. I think both Mark87 and Packinatl have both harped on the fact of the business factor and that's very true. The NFL is all about winning at the cash register rather then the super bowl for the most part.

When you get down too it the stands and coffers are full and the board as it is isn't going to push much as long as that stands true. Now we start turning out 7-9 seasons and people stop spending it's see ya later for this group. Just my thoughts.

The thing is:

It's AR that is doing all of this. MM and TT have done nothing to get this team titles. AR got this team a title, not TT or MM. This has been proven the last 7 years with the 15-1 year and loss in the first round, the Seattle loss in the NFC title game, and the consistent 40 points per game given up on defense every year in the playoffs.

Any other team would have fired their butts by now. There are positives with not having an owner and their are negatives with not having an owner. We are dealing with the negatives, currently.

Couldn't agree with you guys more! I've been frustrated with this for a few years now. I just can't fathom why they have failed to build a strong defense for 7 years now?! Schneider and Dorsey built powerful defenses in very short order. Why does Ted get such a long leash?? He signs a couple of FA's and everybody is giddy. Dom's defense is predicated on great OLB play and what has Ted gotten him???

I think Aaron has made these guys look a lot better than tney are. We'll see. Right now, I don't have a good feeling about the Hawks game. I hope against hope that I'm wrong.

Man I would hate to see a 7-9 season around here csr(

The 2 gms mentioned above have how many more SB wins then TT??? They don't. So while they are being mentioned as building this great Ds, they still are not raking in the world titles either. Schneider is 9-5 in the playoffs. His o line is laughable. Dorsey was a whooping 1-3 in the playoffs. His wr group has be a joke his whole time there. Didn't they go a calendar year without a td by a wr. So while these teams put together solid Ds, they also have been struggling in other areas. I would not trade our packer roster for either of those teams.

My point is that every GM and coaching staff, outside of NE, has warts. Yea I hate the fact that our D crapped the bed over the past 7 years. I also am baffled that capers is still here. The loyalty to him is insane. If you want to go real deep, one of my biggest beefs with the packers brass is the strength and cond group. The packers are 15 years behind the curve here. Injuries have been a major downfall to our success and imo this starts with the S&C program.

Some of these playoff loses are not on TT and MM. If we are being fair and taking the blinders off, AR sucked in the 2011 loss. HE was more to blame then the GM and coach. That horror show that happened in Sea was on players again. AR wasn't great, Burney and Pep not going for the kill shot and the botched onside kick were player mistakes. We man handled that sea team until the last 4 min. IF one guy makes a play we win that game and a hot packer team would have given the pats everything they would have wanted and more.

With the knocks on Ted I do think he has done some good and to not see that is short sighted. He has been more aggressive this year. Every other year ppl bitch that he sits on his hands and doesn't make roster moves. This year he did and it gets brushed off. We kept some key players, signed a top TE. The DL has the talent to be really good. We have 4 Safeties that can start in this league. He acknowledge our OLBer group needed work and went out and grabbed 2 guys to push the weak link Fack to a bubble player. Its on Dom to get the most out of this group.

I feel you fellas on the let downs in the playoffs. I want titles as much as anyone, but everything needs to fall into place for that to happen. We could be in a worse situation. The talk of all other teams would have made moves is incorrect also. Look at Cincy and Balt. they both have long tenured coaches and GMs that have been less successful than us. The steelers haven't won a sb since 08, they still have the same HC and owners. Lets not forget the pats went 10 years between SB wins. (sure they made the dance but if we are going with the winning is everything then who cares)

Winning a title this year will ease a lot of bad feelings. Rodgers needs another title or 2. After we throttle the hawks and that hs o line of theirs we can all sleep good sunday night pc)

Man I would hate to see a 7-9 season around here csr( In isolation, most of us would, ESPECIALLY with and All-World QB. However, if it was the required wakeup call for management, so be it.

The 2 gms mentioned above have how many more SB wins then TT??? They don't. No, but they only have one less, and they don't have an All-World QB. Whether or no TT was lucky or brilliant is (constantly) debatable, but the fact is that the Pack has AR, and nobody else does. In keeping with the theme, allow me to keep AR, and I'd have to seriously think about it.

A paragraph with which I find nothing to argue. :)

Some of these playoff loses are not on TT and MM. If we are being fair and taking the blinders off, AR sucked in the 2011 loss. HE was more to blame then the GM and coach. Not his finest hour, certainly. But many of us shook our heads that year, just waiting for the one time that the offense slowed, knowing that they'd be in deep doo-doo. Not having a D that could pick them up was whose fault? That horror show that happened in Sea was on players again. AR wasn't great, Burney and Pep not going for the kill shot and the botched onside kick were player mistakes. We man handled that sea team until the last 4 min. IF one guy makes a play we win that game and a hot packer team would have given the pats everything they would have wanted and more. Accountability. In most other organizations, who suffers in those circumstances - the guy at the top. Navy ships are involved in accidents, and the fleet commander is relieved. A company misses it's goals, the CEO is fired. The Packers commit a dozen bone-headed mistakes, and it's business as usual.

With the knocks on Ted I do think he has done some good and to not see that is short sighted. He has been more aggressive this year. Every other year ppl bitch that he sits on his hands and doesn't make roster moves. This year he did and it gets brushed off. On the contrary, as noted above, the point is that he made a few non-TT-like moves and the fans go wild. We kept some key players, signed a top TE. The DL has the talent to be really good. We have 4 Safeties that can start in this league. He acknowledge our OLBer group needed work and went out and grabbed 2 guys to push the weak link Fack to a bubble player. The steelers haven't won a sb since 08, they still have the same HC and owners. Are you trying to prove our point? :) Lets not forget the pats went 10 years between SB wins. (sure they made the dance but if we are going with the winning is everything then who cares) Give me three SB wins in four years, then throw in a couple of more a decade later, and I might be inclined to give TT/MM the long leash they've had for their one.

Winning a title this year will ease a lot of bad feelings. Again, no question about it. A lot of us are just tired of saying that since 2010. Rodgers needs another title or 2. After we throttle the hawks and that hs o line of theirs we can all sleep good sunday night pc)

Thanks for the feedback. I am in no way saying TT and Mac are perfect or can't do better. I also agree having one of the best qbs ever helps. I will say it isn't black and white anf there are many shades of grey on this topic. Outside of NE I would be hard pressed to pick a different guy to run our team. I really think we have a solid roster as any this year. Injuries can always change that.

To the point of trading 3 sbs and then having a dark period of 10 years. I would choose that if possible but then again that a not the norm. The pats arent the norm. Many teams do go all in, maybe get that 1 title then fade away. SF (though no title) Balt and even sea have all got to the top and have not since.

I really like the spped we added to the d this year. I think we cN be good enough to get us to glory

With the addition of Dial today, we are certainly in new territory. TT never goes this deep into FA, and yes, I know it's different than signing guys in spring. Still, I think they have strengthened the front 7 in the last week.

I really don't have any major complaints other than being disappointed in the lack of effort on the OL, especially the middle. I get that they thought they were OK at OT, but after losing Tretter and Lang, they were woefully thin in the middle. If one of the starters gets hurt and it costs them games, that will all be on TT's laziness in dealing with the middle of the OL.

Also don't understand releasing Hill. I think he could have been developed into the #2 after Hundley leaves. Not the biggest deal, but in this league it seems when you find a QB with some talent, hold onto him for god's sake. The league is so QB poor, you need to hang onto good ones when you find them.

I was a little surprised by the WR cuts, but fortunately I think they were able to grab the two best cuts Yancey and Clark. I liked McCaffrey, but I think these 2 have the highest upside.

Other than OL, the team seems fine on offense. The defense could use some more pass rush, but I think they are better on DL and in the back end.

I'm not ready to say they will win it all or will fail. They have the necessary components to give themselves a shot.

good post.

I liked Hill also but we weren't carrying 3 qbs. everyone fell in love with Cal last year and we was picked up and dumped and ended back up here. Hill passed him this pre season but who knows what his future will bring he was exciting though.

On the o line depth yea we took some hits in the midde. The Starters are solid, after that its shaky. I will say the Taylor deal was really good and TT should get credit that our LG play was been stellar. After the surprise cut of Sitton, us fans thought it was a bad move. a year later, we are younger and cheaper there with not much drop off. Hopefully one of these young guys can play if Taylor or Evans goes down. I do pray Linsley can stay on the field.

I like what our front 7 is. I really feel the DL can take over games. Clark has grown and is only what 21. Mean Dean only looks to be rising. (need him back) the depth is nice with some run stuffers in RJF and now Dial. If Adams can eat snaps later into the year and add some inside rush we are in damn good shape.

I loved the Brooks signing. He should provide pressure and can play the run. He might not be what he was a few years ago, but he brings what we lost in an aging pep. He had more pressures then both perry and clay last year. Solid move. (anything to keep Fack off the field is a solid move ha) Now Odom is an interesting grab. He was on our radar as a prospect but went to ATL. He led all DL with 37 tackles this preseason in I believe 160 some snaps. In there he had 2 sacks some qb hits and forced a turnover. Both these guys add size and physicality to the D. couple this with much added speed of the last 2 years and this isn't the crap ds we were employing in the recent past.... that is if Dom doesn't go into coma mode.

As you can see Im in the positive camp ha. is it Sunday yet

An interesting point is that Thompson has taken a page out of the Patriots book, by getting a few plug and play starters to fill gaps. As long as it's not long term contracts, and it's not big bucks, but fills a need, it works.

Maybe they've learned that it helps keep a team at the top.
