What the hell is going on out there ? Roster cut edition

Only caught tail end of it so might have missed something, though Wilde rides the line now days on info. There was something from Rodgers show they made mention to but didn't catch enough to post here.

i'm with ec on this. one thing i know for sure, ted thompson loves draft picks. and he really loves comp picks. so i'm speculating that there had to be something fairly significant that compelled him to just let sitton go without any compensation whatsoever.

I still don't understand this move for an aspiring SB team, but if you look at this in terms of injury related, maybe it's not terrible. Who knows if Sitton makes it through the year healthy and is out for the year by the end of the season, then you' re kind screwed. At least giving someone the chance to take over earlier might make a little sense.

But I still don't get it.

76 if that was the case then releasing either Bulaga or Lang would make more sense

i agree. sitton hasn't missed a game in a long time. he started every single game for the last four seasons. in seven seasons as the starter, he's missed two games - both in 2011.

I think cutting Sitton is about a few things. One is that they decided they weren't going to resign him next summer. Two is that they think they have a replacement in Tretter and a stop gap in Taylor until Linsley comes back. Three is that they were looking for more space to extend Tretter and others to diminish the long term impact of their rising salaries.

I don't think this is about Taylor, though obviously he'll get an opportunity now. Think it's about Tretter trending up and Sitton trending down. That's the only thing that makes sense to me -- that they wanted the whole preseason to try to get a better estimation of those two trajectories.

I still find it hard to agree with the choice but I think it's defensible under a certain set of assumptions.tc(

Defense....read previous post....had nothing to do with contract/$. ;-)
That's what Wilde says but to be blunt he's on the out's with MM after last yr and his sources as well as Chewy are " shaky" at best.

I think $ is in the equation as well as something else. I don't buy into the locker room issue at all nor do I think it was anything between him and Barrington as was rumor. My guess is that it's a few yrs before the real truth comes out.tc(

If there's one thing you can take away from rumors, it's that there are enough different points of view, and "smoking gun theories" to keep us busy running through them for days.

The fact is, the people in the front office, and working the sideline, don't always make what we'd call rational decisions. Sometimes they make what we consider ridiculous choices.

I look back to when the Packers drafted Rodgers. It's amazing how many Packer fans were barking about how it was a wasted first round pick because we had Favre.

When Favre was dumped, in favor of Rodgers, the base went of it's rails again.

Yes. Those are two isolated incidents, but we did learn that neither of those two choices that looked horrible at the time were bad. They were two of the better choices made by Thompson and McCarthy.

I'm going to wait to judge this one, after the situation begins to grade out.

BUT...... I refuse to give up my right to make far out observations about this whole thing. It's what we do to keep the party hopping!

Ok ok the real reason why Sitton was cut he took the last Cheeseburger from the buffet table before MM could grab it. LOL
