Thompson: "We value draft and development, we value free agency"

And one thing on Teavathon and other early signings. These were esentially done 2-3 weeks ago players know where they want to play for the most part. Agents know the price. If they match, team and $$$ it's done end of story. The tampering rule is a joke. Are specific contracts terms discussed no but parameters yes. Call it a grey area or fine line so be it but it exists. You really think a $40m deal is put together in 2 days please. It takes longer than that to draft the language. Yes there is a standard player contract but it's a bit more detailed on specific language.
Teavathon wanted to play in Chicago

Didn't Travathan say he wanted to play in Green Bay and was hoping they would call...but they never did? sh))

He said he wished they would have called. Translation: would have been nice to have some leverage

some people would like you to believe that ted thompson had no chance to sign trevathan and there fore he is excused from even making an effort. those same people are now having to make increasingly silly arguments to defend ted thompson because the bears have also signed ilb jerrell freeman for a very reasonable 3-year, $12 million deal with only $6 million guaranteed.

Teavathon to the Bears was done 2-3 weeks ago.

you keep repeating that. please show me any kind of proof that this anything more than your opinion. and explain to me why - if that is true - the bears could contact trevathan's agent and work out the deal 2-3 weeks ago but the packers could not.

also, if i remember correctly, a couple years ago there was a free agent that thompson supposedly thought he had an agreement with and then he woke up the next day only to find that said free agent signed with someone else. deals are never "done" untile they are signed. the bears may have believed they had an agreement in principle 2-3 weeks ago, but thompson still had a chance to make the deal right right up until the contract was signed. the fact tat he made zero effort at all is what is bothering most of us.

That was somewhat taken out of context Wolf... his agent had the Bears deal done before things started in reality.
Why on earth would Travathan say that after the deal was done? He would gain no leverage after the fact. That makes no sense to me.

But, then again, professional athletes and their negotiations are absolute cra) to me!

My old agent still works part time for Rosenhaus on the side here and there, he starts contacting potential teams at least 3 months in advance. Ask Crease who was in the mix not that long ago if the agents follow the "rules" to a T. Your right RB, no one knows for sure but honestly Teavathon only wanted GB or any other team to call for leavarage. Just my take

It seems every year we have posts angered at Thompson's absolute refusal to fill holes with FA and others defending him. I don't know why I thought this year would be any different. I guess I was hoping he would at least try, given even MM's complaint that he's tired of it. Oh well...
